Last Nine Months Of Unemployment Not A Complete Waste Of Time

The reason I haven't been writing so much on the blog lately: I've been working on a book, which was just picked up by HarperCollins! Definitely the best Christmas present I've ever received. Slated for publication in spring 2010. Yayness!

Congratulations! I'd be lying if I didn't say I am intensely jealous but so so happy for you! Can you tell us what it's about?

Congrats!! I love reading your blog, and wondered where you had gone - a book is a perfect reason to ease up on the blogging! Can't wait to read it.

Congrats! I will preorder it in a minute! Now you realize you better get used to the following questions:

1. When will it be out?

2. Who is Eleanor?

3. Seriously, when will it be out?

Thank you all for the well-wishes! I'm enormously flattered. The Eleanor in the book title refers to Eleanor Roosevelt. More details to come... :-)

What exactly is involved with getting picked up? I've been writing an EBOOK I'd like to get published. Anyhoo.

For me, it was writing a 100-page book proposal and sending it out to agents. I'm not sure how eBooks work exactly.

Nice meeting you, too, blackcoffeegasoline! Mediabistro has a ton of writing classes. I took the "How to Write A Book Proposal" class. I also took the Advanced Non-Fiction Book Writing class, which was ridiculously helpful. It held me to a weekly deadline, and I found a teacher I loved and workshopped every chapter of my book with her. Here are the course listings:
